Brush seals
-
A brush seal includes bristles and two plates, and ensures highly-efficient airtightness.
When mounted in an engine, the brush seal keeps up with changes in clearance between the stator and rotor and in eccentricity. With the excellent airtightness, the brush seal significantly improves the power and fuel efficiency of the engine.
Brush seals have been used to reduce leakage of secondary air in the gas turbines of airplanes. Brush seals improved for use in gas turbines of large generators have recently replaced labyrinth seals in the latest gas turbines.
