These are used on automotive engines and geared motors primarily to prevent oil leaks at the ends of rotating shafts and the intrusion of dust particles from outside.

The word “oil seal” is used to describe these products that seal oil. In addition to preventing fluids, such as lubricants and water, and gases used in mechanical products from leaking at their “gaps,” they also keep particles of dust, dirt and sand from intruding from outside.

An O-ring is a type of packing with an O-shaped (round) cross section, which is seated in a groove and compressed appropriately to prevent the leakage of various fluids, including oil, water, air and gas. Utilizing synthetic rubber materials suitable for various purposes, we offer O-rings that withstand extended periods of use and use under harsh conditions.

Soft Metal

Soft Metal is NOK’s brand name for a seal material made of a thin metallic plate with a rubber coating on both of its surfaces.

Soft Metal is a new seal material made of a thin iron plate, stainless steel plate, aluminum plate or other metallic plate with a synthetic rubber coating on both of its surfaces.
Since it combines the rigidity of metal with the elasticity of rubber, it is also used as a sheet material requiring sound and vibration insulation properties.

Lip seals

Lip seals are used to seal coolant and refrigeration oil in car air-conditioner units.

These lip seals were developed as seals for car air-conditioner shafts. They are made of material that is suited for sealing coolant and refrigeration oil, and also have a compact construction due to their unique design. In addition to preventing leaks from conventional mechanical compressors, they are also used to control the pressure inside electric compressors used on electric vehicles (xEV).
These seals are mass-produced in a fully automated process and are used in almost all cars made in Japan.

Segment seals

A segment seal is a gas seal for use in the main shaft of an aircraft engine. Since it has high reliability, the segment seal is also used in rockets.

Segment seals have been developed mainly for the main shaft of an aircraft engine, with technical support provided by Koppers Inc., U.S. These gas seals have high sealing performance and excellent durability due to the special structure achieved by precision processing technology.
Segment seals consume very little buffer gas. This feature is highly valued where toxic or inflammable gas is used. They are utilized in airplanes and rockets, such as the Japanese H-1 rocket, and in general industries such as ironmaking.

• Brush seals

Brush seals

A brush seal includes bristles and two plates, and ensures highly-efficient airtightness.

When mounted in an engine, the brush seal keeps up with the changes in clearance between the stator and rotor and in eccentricity. With the excellent airtightness, the brush seal significantly improves the power and fuel efficiency of the engine.
Brush seals have been used to reduce leakage of secondary air in the gas turbines of airplanes. Brush seals improved for use in gas turbines of large generators have recently replaced labyrinth seals in latest gas turbines.

Static metallic gaskets

Kalrez is a chemical-proof synthetic rubber that maintains its rubber properties even at high temperatures. Kalrez is the brand name of the perfluoroelastomer developed by the American company, DuPont.

Kalrez is a revolutionary synthetic rubber product that provides the elasticity and sealing performance of elastomers, coupled with the chemical resistance and thermal stability of Teflon.
The amount of gas it produces, even in vacuums, is small, and it also exhibits high resistance against a variety of chemicals such as ether, ketone, amine, and oxidizers. Furthermore, it does not lose its rubber properties even when used at super-high temperatures while in contact with corrosive fluids. Therefore, Kalrez is widely used in a number of industrial fields such as semiconductor manufacturing, chemical transportation, nuclear, aircraft, and energy.

• Magnetic fluid seals

Magnetic fluid seals

Magnetic fluid seals are seals using magnetic fluids, which have the characteristic of being drawn to magnets. A magnet fixes magnetic fluid to the perimeter of a rotating shaft to form a fluid O-ring which maintains clean sealing performance.

Unlike conventional oil seals and mechanical seals, magnetic fluid seals are seals that maintain clean sealing performance achieved by fixing a magnetic fluid around the rotating shaft with a magnet to make fluid O-rings.
These seals are used as dust seals for hard disk drives, which must be operated in a clean environment, and as vacuum seals for semiconductor manufacturing equipment and liquid-crystal display manufacturing equipment.

Hybrid seals consist of a magnetic fluid seal, welded metal bellows, and rotary joint combined into one piece. Combining these into a single piece enables compact design and better maintainability.

They have been approved by classification agencies internationally, and come in a variety of types including the basic type CX, type DX which contains a spare seal, type AX which is a pollution-free seal, and type EVA which is combined with an end-face seal.
