Environmental Management System

NOK operates the following Environmental Management System to ensure that each and every employee conducts environmental protection activities in a smooth and steady manner.

Outline of the System

1. Central Organization
1) Name:
Central Environmental Protection Committee (Chairman: President)
2) Role:
In view of the importance of environmental management and a range of operations to be targeted in this area, NOK established this committee as a central organization to set forth and implement general Environmental Management Policies throughout the entire Company.
2. Plant Organization (Chairman: Head of Plants)
1) Name:
Committee for Environmental Protection of Plants
2) Role:
This committee formulates and implements specific environmental management measures based on the environmental policies and plans for the entire Company as well as those for individual plants.
3. Environmental Protection Sectional Meeting (Chairman: Executive Director in Charge of Environmental Affairs)
1) Name:
Environmental Protection Sectional Meeting
2) Role:
This organization formulates and implements measures to reduce the Company's environmental impact as a subordinate organization of the Central Environmental Protection Committee and supervises the small committees established for specific environmental items in conducting activities to reduce the Company's environmental impact.
4. Small Committees for Environmental Protection (Chairs: Heads of supervising departments)
1) Name:
a. Small Committee for Reduction of VOC
b. Small Committee for Zero Emission
c. Small Committee for Reduction of Energy Consumption
2) Role:
These small committees conduct environmental impact assessment and other surveys for relevant environmental items, collect information and make technical examinations to reduce the Company's environmental impact and to formulate specific environmental impact reduction measures, while instructing and supporting the related divisions and plants of the Company on environmental issues.

Acquisition of ISO 14001 Certification

Completion of a Multi-Site Environmental Management System for Plants

The second plant in Shizuoka and Shonan-development center acquired ISO 14001 certification in March 2009. As a result of promoting the acquisition since fiscal 2001, a total of seven plants (the Fukushima, Nihonmatsu, Shizuoka, Tokai, Kumamoto, Saga, and Tottori plants) are now ISO 14001 certified and operated under one single Environmental Management System.
